TROOP 464 AUG/SEPT. 1998

SCOUTMASTER’S CORNER

Troop 464 is growing fast, and we as a troop are moving full speed ahead. Our leadership is in place at all levels from the scouts to the adult leaders. We are in a position to move forward in our troop to great levels of excitement for the scouts. Many thanks to all our adult leaders both those who have been serving Troop 464, and to all our new adult leaders who have joined us. The benefit of all this wonderful talent is, of course, directed to the scouts.

A number of scouts and leaders/parents have just completed the Emergency Preparedness Course given by the Los Angeles Fire Dept. Many thanks to Kimberly Hall for organizing this event. We all learned a lot and feel a little more confident to be in a position to help others in the event an emergency arises.

The PLC meeting came up with some great activities for the rest of the year as listed in this newsletter. I encourage ALL SCOUTS to participate in them. They are designed for you and your enjoyment.

Summer Camp will be Aug 1 - 8 at Pico Blanco. We have 17 scouts and 5 adults going. We’re looking for a great time at a new place in an area that is absolutely heavenly to camp at.

Once again, many thanks to all leaders and adults helping to make this troop the best in the Western Council.

Happy Scouting,

Alex Balian

Scoutmaster

FUN FACT
Every 20 seconds the word HOLLYWOOD is spelled out in Morse code from the top of the Capital Records building.

THE SCOUT LAW

The Scout Law is the foundation upon which the entire Scouting movement is built. The points of the law are a guide by which every Scout tries to live.

The Scout Law is a statement of facts.

"A Scout is trustworthy ...loyal ...helpful ...friendly ...courteous ...kind ...obedient ...cheerful ...thrifty ...brave ...clean ...reverent."

A Scout if FRIENDLY. A Scout is a friend to all. He is a brother to other Scouts and all the people of the world. He seeks to understand others. He respects those with ideas and customs that are different from his own.

EDITOR’S NOTE

Summer is going by at the speed of light. I hope every one is having a wonderful time. We had a meeting of the new boys and got a lot of advancements done. I hope that we all learned something that we could use another day. I would like to thank Ryan B. and Rajesh J. for their help, as well as the adults - thank you.

I would also like to congratulate Michael Maiman on his achievement of Eagle Scout. The Eagle Scout award is one that I would like to see all of our young men get and wear proudly. Keep up the good work.

Yours in Scouting,
