IN THE MAILBOX

My thoughts on Camporee:

I thought Camporee was a pretty fun outing. Some of the events were fun and some were hard and boring. One of the fun ones for my group was Magic Squares. Our campsite had a large tree in it that we would throw a rope over the limbs and swing, that was fun. Most of our free time was spent playing cards, sleeping, eating, and tying monkey fists. I would say one of the funniest things that happened was when Cory tried to go sliding down the hill in a plastic box. We got a lot of second and third places (thanks to the Rebel Patrol). We all contributed to our Gateway which won first place. Chris Balian ran up to claim the plaque (there was only one plaque and we tied for first place) before the other Troop could get there. Like I said at the beginning, I thought it was a fun trip and I would do it again next year.

THE SCOUT LAW

The Scout Law is the foundation upon which the entire Scouting movement is built. The points of the law are a guide by which every Scout tries to live.

The Scout Law is a statement of facts.

"A Scout is trustworthy ...loyal ...helpful ...friendly ...courteous ...kind ...obedient ...cheerful ...thrifty ...brave ...clean ...reverent."

By doing all you can to live up to the Scout Law, you are a Scout. If you should willfully break the Scout Law, you violate the spirit of Scouting.

The ideals of the Scout Law are very high. Strive to live by them, and you will excel on your own and as a part of your Scout troop, community, and nation.

A Scout is TRUSTWORTHY. A Scout tells the truth. He keeps his promises. Honesty is a part of his code of conduct. People can always depend on him.

EDITOR’S NOTE

Hi everyone, here it is already May and so many things to do with so little time. We have two Eagle projects coming up and one Eagle Court. Please mark the dates on your calendar and don’t forget. Some of the Troop went canoeing down the Colorado River, I hope everyone had fun. I heard that the wind gave them some resistance. I would like to take this time to thank all those who made this trip possible, and thank Mr. Buffum for the use of his boat. I hope that the damage sustained is not too costly. I hope everyone had a wonderful time at Camporee this past weekend. I was not able to be there, but I heard the Troop did very well. Congratulations to all of you.

Yours in Scouting,
David Ballew, ASM
