FUND-RAISER

Please mark your calendars for the Rosie’s Fund Raiser on Sunday, September 12th.  Fliers with additional information and coupons to distribute to your family and friends will be distributed at one of our up-coming meetings.  Please plan on participating, everyone who eats at Rosies’s Barbecue on Platt (Pavilion’s shopping center) and uses a coupon will have a portion of the proceeds donated to our Troop.  This is a fun and effective way to earn money for the Troop.

FIRST-AID MERIT BADGE

The month of September is being set aside for the First Aid Merit Badge.  This is the perfect opportunity for all those who need this merit badge, sign up for it now.  We will be preparing you all month for an eight hour Saturday course.  Preparation will include all of the First Aid requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class, so let’s get it together and sign up now.  The Saturday Class will be on October 9th at the American Legion Hall.

McGRATH BEACH CAMPOUT

All those who wish to go on the McGrath State Beach campout must sign up to do so.  We need an accurate count of who is going to be there to better prepare.  So, see Brian Ballew for signups and money collections.

“Words of Wisdom”

The very survival of the human species depends upon the maintenance of an ocean clean and alive.  The ocean is our planet’s life belt.

EDITOR’S NOTE

Working Together

(Equipment - 20 wooden matches held together with a rubber band.  See that all the matches are even in the bundle so the package will stand on end.  Stand the matches on the floor in front of the Scouts.)

Scouts, you’ll notice the matches in front of you stand easily when they’re all bound together with the rubber band.

But, look at what happens when I try to stand them after removing the band.

Our Troop is like a bunch of matches.  As long as we work together as a team, bound together by the ties of Scouting, we will stand together as a strong Troop.  But if we remove those ideas of Scouting, and each man thinks only of himself, we’ll be like that bunch of matches when the rubber band was taken off.

As we all live up to the ideals of the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, and Slogan, we will be wrapping ourselves with the band that will strengthen our Troop and make sure that it stands for the things that make Scouting great.

                   Yours in Scouting,

                   David C. Ballew, ASM
