SCOUTMASTER’S CORNER

Greetings to everyone. These past two months have been quite active for our troop. First, I want to thank all scouts and adult leaders for making "Scout Sunday" at St. James Presbyterian Church a great success. I am still getting comments even now from members of the congregation as to how impressed they were of the scouts of our troop. As one member (an Eagle Scout) told me " it's a great feeling to know that scouting is still alive and well in the San Fernando Valley" The impression our troop made had far reaching effects, for we are bridging over four new cub scouts into our troop by recommendation of a member of the church who saw us.

In March we had a great campout at Verdugo Oaks. The weather was great, we had a lot of activities, and ate very well (thanks to Chris supervising the dinner meal and Cory creating a killer desert). Our evening ended with a fun campfire (with a real fire burning) and with a ceremony where two American flags were retired as prescribed by the Congress of the United States. The scouts participate in the ceremony which, I feel, added more meaning to the ceremony.

April was Camporee month and as usual it was interesting. The scouts had a great time, even that I still feel we should have won 1st place in the gateway. Oh well, no comment. T

he next months ahead will be quite exciting for our troop. Besides various outings that will be taking place and an eagle court honoring David Nussbaum and Danny Rozelle, we will be bridging over approximately eight new cubs into our troop. Let's give them the old "464" welcome when they come.

Enough said, see everybody at the meetings and outings.

Yours in Scouting:
Alex Balian Scoutmaster

Announcements

The troop has just purchased a WHOLE BUNCH OF NEW TENTS. Very nice one's I might add! That leaves us with 12 old tents that have a limited life. These tents are available to the families of the troop for a nominal suggested donation (tax deductible, of course) of only $20. This will help the troop off set the cost of the new tents. The tents are more than serviceable, but, they probably have a life of one summer left in them. Still, it's a great bargain PLUS you get to help the troop.
