SCOUTMASTER’S CORNER Happy Summer Scouting to All!! I do hope all you Scouts and your families are having a great summer. I know of a couple of Scouts that have been traveling. Blake S was in Alaska, Josh H is presently in Israel, Mark M was in Australia, and Chris B was in the Caribbean. As you can see, Troop 464 has been all over the world. Meanwhile, our Troop has had interesting outings. Last month we had an outing at Pardee Sea Base in the Marina del Rey. The Scouts were treated to lessons in sail boating and other watercrafts. All of the boys had a great time. The vote is in and the Scouts want to go to Emerald Bay at Catalina Island for summer camp 2001. This is a difficult camp to get into and plans must be made now in order to get the camp and time. Our new Scout leadership is being formed and will be announced at the Court of Honor, Sept 6th. I want to encourage all Scouts and their families to come to this event. It is very important, it recognizes the accomplishments of the Scouts over the last months. Thank you for all the adult leaders for their help in this Troop and most important, thank you to the Scouts for making Troop 464 the greatest Troop around. Yours in Scouting: COURT OF HONOR Parents, please bring a treat to share with the Troop. We ask that every family bring some sort of dessert that will serve 8 or so (you know how the boys like sweets). If you'd like to bring ice with ice chest or sodas, please coordinate with either Jo Ann Burkhart or Carol Cloud. Also, a gentle reminder that if your son went to summer camp don't forget to reimburse the Troop for the bus trip. See me if you have any questions. Judy Osborne

UPCOMING EVENTS |
August 20 PLC 6:30 @ Lukers 22 Dodger Night 23 NO MEETING 26 Family beach camping September 6 Court of Honor 23 Campout Sycamore Canyon DODGER NIGHT I have heard from two Scouts who wish to work on their Swimming Merit Badge - are there any others? Let me know as soon as possible so I can try to arrange for a merit badge counselor. Karen Osterheldt, UPCOMING MEETINGS InBox Woodbadge is the penultimate training for Scout leaders. It is to adult leaders what JLTC is to our kids. I signed up, went to, and dropped out of the last Woodbadge class because of the 3 weekend commitment which I was unable to complete. HOWEVER, there is another upcoming class that is one week long. That means setting up your tent ONCE, packing and unpacking ONCE, doing laundry ONCE, and making that horrendous drive to Camp Josepho ONCE. It is scheduled for Memorial Day week, May 28 through June 2, 2001. Anyone want to join me? A chance of a lifetime. Let me know. Matt Weintraub |
