SCOUTMASTER’S CORNER
Greetings to all, I hope everyone had a great summer vacation and is ready to start the fall season. Our Troop has been going strong with various outings for those who haven't been on vacation.

September brings many things. School (sorry about that, guys!), the holiday season, cooler weather, and new Scout leadership in our Troop. The Troop will be lead by Scott B as SPL and Chris O as ASPL, along with patrol leaders Marc C, Mike E, Blake S, and Jared W. Many thanks to Kyle L, our outgoing leader who stepped up to bat when there was a vacancy in our leadership…job well done, Kyle. With our new leaders, new activities and new experiences will be in store for our Troop.

The month of September is the start of fund raising for our Troop. We have Wendy's night, on Sept 7th and El Torito night on Sept 17th. Please support these activities if you can. The money raised will go directly back into the Troop to be used to benefit the Scouts.

That's it for now. I look forward to a fun and exciting time in our Troop this fall with different activities and things to do

TRAINING
We are so lucky to have so many great adult leaders. For those of you who would like to participate, but are unsure how to proceed, please see Alex. Also, the Council has lots of training available for various positions. The Boy Scout Council phone number is
(818) 785-8700.

Sept 15-17 Scoutmaster
Fundamentals
Sept 8-9 Woodbadge
21-23 Woodbadge
Oct 5-7 Woodbadge

As you can see, Woodbadge training is usually three week-ends. However, next May this training will be offered in a one-week session, rather than the three different week-ends. As Matt says, this way you only have the drive into Camp Josepho once, set up your tent once, etc. This program is excellent, and is great for all those working with the Scouts.

POPCORN
Yes, it is getting to be that time again. In October the popcorn sales will start. This is a great opportunity for Scouts to earn money for their individual accounts to help offset their costs of campouts and summer camp. Karen Osterheldt and Alex will have more information soon.

FUND-RAISERS
Please mark your calendars for the Wendy's Fund Raiser on Thursday, September 7th and El Torito Day on Sunday, September 17th. Fliers with additional information and coupons to distribute to your family and friends are enclosed. Please plan on participating, everyone who eats at Wendy's on Platt (Pavilion's shopping center) as well as El Torito on Tampa in Northridge and uses a coupon will have a portion of the proceeds donated to our Troop. This is a fun and effective way to earn money for the Troop.

In addition, Carol will have the 2001 Entertainment books for sale at $20.00 each. They make great holiday gifts, especially when it is the same large book as in the past but the price has been lowered to $20 each. Carol can also get books for most California areas as well as other cities in other states. If you are interested or have further questions, please see Carol.

Finally, JoAnn Burkhart is obtaining packets for the eScript program. There will be a $10 charge for each family signing up, but you may register as many credit cards, ATM cards, or debit cards as you wish. There is a lengthy list of merchants who participate in the program. Whenever you use these registered cards, a portion of each purchase will go directly to the Troop. This is a pretty painless way to raise significant money for the Troop, to help defray transportation costs and obtain new equipment, etc. More information will be forthcoming as the registration packets are available.
