SCOUTMASTER’S CORNER

Greetings to all.  First, I must share with you all how excited I am about our new Webmasters.  As you all know (at least I hope you do), our Troop has a Web page, www.troop464org that has been maintained by ASM Dave Rozelle.  We have been trying to find Scouts to work with Dave and maintain the page.  Well, we now have two: Derek D and Mark M.  These two Scouts are definitely cyber Scouts and know all about this stuff.  Look for new changes in our web page that will be done by these Scouts.  They also are asking for everyone to send pictures, articles, announcements, and any other useful info that will benefit the Troop.  Thanks guys, we all look forward to seeing your work.  Also, many thanks to ASM Dave for keeping our page going.

This past month we had a fun filled bike ride to the beach, followed by spending the day working compass courses created by ASMs Dave Ballew and Karen Osterheldt.

This month we are going to have a weekend campout at Leo Carillo State Beach.  We are going to hike in the surrounding mountains, eat, do more compass courses, and eat, and eat.

Speaking of eating, an important activity of this Troop, we are going to work on the cooking merit badge in the month of November.  John T, Chris Balian, and Carolyn Balian will be showing the Troop various menus for the Dutch Oven, BBQ’s, and foil cooking.  All of which can be done while camping.  It is going to be interesting and fun, and of course we will all HAVE TO SAMPLE THE FOOD THAT WILL BE PREPARED!!!!.  It is a tough job, but someone has to do it.

Anyway, that’s all for now.  Lots of activities are in the future for the Troop, so let’s see all you Scouts in our Troop support the meetings and outings.

              Yours in Scouting,

              Alex Balian, Scoutmaster

HELP

Help is desperately needed from those who are not sewing impaired.  JoAnn Burkhart has volunteered to take over the making of the unique scarves the Scouts wear, but she needs help.  Dave Ballew’s family has been making these scarves in the past, but the torch has been passed back to us.  If you have any ability with a sewing machine, please see JoAnn.  They aren’t tough to make; it just takes talents that most of us are lacking.

   Thanks.

IN-BOX

Scouts, it is the start of a new school year.  Many homework assignments will be due and many reports will be written.  In addition to that, Scouting continues.  All wish to advance to the next rank and all wish to earn Merit Badges.  Budget your time and energy.  A report or assignment that is written at the last minute is never as good as one that is thought about and planned and rewritten to improve it.

Budget yourselves to make the best of yourselves.  If you do not budget your school time, you will not have time for Scouting and just hanging out.  Remember that there are many things you want to do; whether it is a Scout hike, a movie, or whatever.  Things come up at the last minute that will make your plans impossible to keep.

If you just take 5 minutes each morning to layout a plan of the day, or a plan of the week, or even a plan of the month, you will be successful in completing all of your objectives on time and to the best of your ability.  A plan should include extra time for last minute emergencies so you won’t be caught short.

The summer is gone and school has started.  Did you accomplish anything during the summer that will help you in the future?

September is already gone…what did you accomplish?  What will you do in October?

There are only 9 months left of school, a long time?  I think not.  You already know that summer camp is in July of 2001.  Are you ready?  If you do not do well in school, you will be in summer school and miss Emerald Bay.  Is that OK?  Are there other things you will miss?

Budge, plan, and layout today, this week, this month, and your life will be easier and more fulfilled.
