SCOUTMASTER’S CORNERGreetings to all at 464. October was quite a month for our Troop. Our popcorn sales were a record breaker. Many thanks to all the Scouts and adult leaders who worked at the stores selling popcorn. Also, I am told that we are doing a brisk business on the individual sales. Special thanks to ASM Karen Osterheldt and Carol Cloud for organizing and keeping the popcorn as inventory until we sold it. At the weekly meetings, Carolyn Balian, Cooking Merit Badge Counselor, has been introducing the Scouts to a new world of cooking in the Dutch oven and foil cooking. We did eat well, especially when it came to the desserts. Special thanks to John (Chef Emril) T who shared with us his old family secret in making real spaghetti sauce from scratch. We all ate well in October. Thank you, Carolyn, for your help. Our outing this month was at Leo Carrillo Beach. We all had a great time, starting with the photography merit badge and then catching some Snipes for dinner. Thank you to Dave and Brian Ballew, Chris and Carolyn Balian, and the old Cork for the adult leadership. It was a great outing. Well, the holidays are just around the corner. It is hard to believe that the Y2K is almost over. Well, time flies when you’re having fun. Yours in Scouting, Alex Balian, Scoutmaster RECHARTERINGThe deadline is December 1st. Please see the enclosed form about our recharter. Complete the bottom of the form and return it with your money to me ASAP! I would really appreciate everyone’s cooperation so that we may recharter on time. Thank you. Yours
in Scouting, HELP!!!!Don’t forget Michael N’s Eagle Project this Sunday. We are meeting at Joann’s Fabrics early Sunday morning. Call Michael for more details. Great food and company will be there. If you have any talent or interest in sewing, see JoAnn Burkhart who needs help with the scarves our Scouts wear. JoAnn also has the Escript packets. This is a great way for the Troop to earn money all year just based on our regular spending habits. Stores like Vons & Pavilions give us a percentage of the money we spend there. Just watch out, JoAnn might try to talk you into buying a new Mercedes from a dealer who will donate a portion back to the Troop! It is almost time for our annual Holiday Party. If you would be willing to have our motley crew in your home, please see Pauline. If you haven’t yet seen the album of Corky’s great summer camp pictures, see me. They are available for reprints at $1 each. Finally, there are so many of you out there with great ideas for outings and activities. Please share them with Alex or any of the ASM. The boys need lots of variety to keep them interested and active. Thanks for listening. Judy

IN-BOXEveryone who went to Leo Carrillo seemed to have a good time. The fact that one fell out of a tree and not everyone brought cameras for the photography merit badge and other minor things happened, but they did not stop the fun from happening. Scouting is more of an attitude than a moment. Being with fellow Scouts, friends, and good vibes brings wonderful times and great memories. Thanks to all who came. A special thanks to Carolyn and Chris Balian, both of who were galloping gourmets, supplying much needed calories to get us ready for the overeating holidays on the horizon. Corky Straus ASM P.S. For the Scout(s) who believes that Leo Carrillo was a great explorer of the early 1400 or 1500’s, go back to your history books, check that spelling and you may wish to read about the early days of television, especially about a show called “The Cisco Kid”…Oh Pancho!
